ABOUT TOM

Discovering the Ride
I grew up in Canyon Country, CA. since the age of 10 and discovered mountain bikes when I was in High School around 1984. My parents had a home in Mammoth Lakes, CA.

First Race, First Love
In 1986, I raced my first race, The Kamikaze. It was a stage race back then which included cross country, trials and downhill. I absolutely fell in love with it. I raced the Kamikaze over 20 years!

Turning Pro
By the end of 1987, I had gotten a factory sponsor and raced as a Professional through about 1995 when I went to work for Answer Products, now known as Manitou. Having kids slowed me down and I needed to be home more. I started in warranty repairing very simple suspension but quickly moved into R&D and help test and create real suspension for bikes. The haydays!

Building the Roco Line
After working for Answer Products, I got a job with Marzocchi to develop a rear shock. I created the first ROCO coil with pencil and straightedge, 29 hand drawings and shortly after that the ROCO air and the ROCO lite where designed. During that time, I got SolidWorks 3d design program and taught myself how to use it. The best and worst thing I've ever done. I worked there for 10 years until the company was sold.

Founding DVO Suspension
In 2012 with a few other employees we left and started DVO Suspension. I was the lead engineer and designed everything but bottom cases and fenders. I designed all the dampers and air springs (with support from brainiac engineers) for forks and all the rear shock designs they currently use, Jade, Topaz etc.

A New Chapter: TR Designs and Services
That brings us to 2024, I get laid off due to "no revenue" coming in so I took what I knew and started TR Designs and Services working from home. I invested everything, from 3D design software to bleed machines and now a suspension dyno. I've done work as an engineering support engineer for e-mobility projects and currently work as a mechanical design engineer for the brand, Stablead. I even went back to college and got a AS in Water Systems Technologies. Flow math!!

Still Riding, Still Dialing It In
As of today I've been able to get back to what I have always loved, suspension and bicycles. I'm not an e-bike rider still, to each their own. I've always loved human powered sports. I'm 59, and I still love the big rides and I love to put a smile on a fellow riders face with detailed and dialed suspension.

Let's ride!
